The Dekkers

That’s us…

I’m Andrea Dekker — he’s my husband Dave. I run my own business, he’s a high-school Math teacher. We’re a 20-something couple in love with eachother and all things farmhouse.

…and this is OUR farmhouse!

It’s 120 years old — which makes it old enough to be our great-GREAT grandparent.

It’s our dreamhouse!

It’s full of character, charm, and LOTS of potential.

I’ve been wishing, hoping, dreaming, and searching for my very own farmhouse for as long as I can remember. However, I didn’t bring Dave along for the ride until we were married in June of 2006 {poor guy, he had no idea what he was getting himself in to}.

At that time, we couldn’t find anything we liked in our price range so we opted for a cute little ranch in need of some TLC. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing so luckily, my dad helped us through our first 4 years of home renovations and DIY projects.

We learned a lot. We made many mistakes. Dave laughed; I cried…and in the end, we turned the little ranch into our home.

We were happy!

However, I never gave up on my lifetime dream of buying and renovating an old farmhouse.

I searched all the real-estate websites and scoured Craigslist on a weekly basis. I looked at HUNDREDS of home…but found nothing. I just wasn’t willing to settle for less than my dream.

Then we found this house in the fall of 2010. We both knew it was THE house.

After several weeks of thinking and praying, we made an offer {which was accepted}. We sold our little ranch in less than 72 hours on Craigslist and a few days later, we signed papers for our farmhouse! It was a CRAZY whirlwind to say the least.

We officially closed on Dec. 10, 2010, and we’re all moved in by Christmas 2010 — great timing!!

As the New Year turned, we also turned a new chapter in our lives — one that included OUR farmhouse! And for the next few years, we’ll be documenting our renovation process — going step-by-step, room-by-room — turning this farmhouse into our dreamhouse.

We still don’t know what we’re doing; but we sure have a lot of fun doing it!

FarmhouseLove.com is the place we plan to share the nitty-gritty details of all our farmhouse projects, the up’s and down’s of owning a 120-year-old home, LOTS of farmhouse inspiration, and our passion for all things farmhouse.
