The Master Bedroom…

Now that we’ve successfully completed our very first project, we figured it was time to move on to something bigger and better.

The Master Bedroom!

First of all, I just want to show you a picture of our super cute master bedroom over in our old house. {Sorry the picture is kind-of grainy}.

Here’s a better picture of just the bed.

The master bedroom was my favorite room in our old house… it felt so calm and peaceful. I loved the neutral colors, I loved the bedding, I loved the round wooden mirror, the old screen door behind our bed, the crisp white curtains, our old iron bed…I loved everything about this room!

And even though the furniture and bedding moved with us, I still have to face the reality that THIS is our new master bedroom!

I’m sure you can see why we chose to put this project on the top of our list!! Mainly because my need for a neutral, peaceful, calming master bedroom will NEVER happen in this room! But there are several other reasons too…

Here are just a few:

1. I HATE purple

2. I can’t stand sponge paint or wallpaper

3. I don’t do ceiling fans

4. The blueish/grey faded carpet has reached it’s life expectancy!

5. I won’t have a TV in our bedroom

6. The curtains have beads on them…enough said!

7. The windows don’t match {one is new, one is old}

8. I DON’T do mirrored doors. Ever.

9. I want hardwood floors and REAL wood doors

10. I crave neutral!

I could keep going, but I think you get the idea. I’m not a huge fan of this room; however, it does overlook the front porch, it does have 2 closets, and it does have lots of potential {and it’s a lot bigger than it looks in these pictures}

OK, so here are some of my ideas:

The walls will be replaced with a warm neutral color. I also want to figure out some way to include “exposed walls” like these from The Lettered Cottage.

The carpet will be replaced with REAL wood, wide-plank floors {hopefully} with a very dark stain. I love how the dark wood floors are such a stark contrast to the crisp white walls and trim in this bedroom from A Country Farmhouse.

The ceiling fan will be replaced with a something spectacular and we’re planning to put bigger windows in to catch as much light as possible. It might not be as bright as this amazing room from The Nesting Place, but it will be bright!

The closet doors…I don’t care as long as they’re gone!

p.s. the carpet is coming out tomorrow — wish us luck!

    Love your ideas. I bet it will look awesome!

  • *shudder* Even I don’t like that purple! Honestly, I can’t believe you could even be creative enough in that room to redo it. But it looks AMAZING! Great job, Andrea!

    I agree with you on the purple.. I hate purple.. well unless it is used as a color of fruit.. LOL..
    beads on the curtains? UGH.. not going there..
    I personally I like a ceiling fan in the bed room.. But our bedroom is the warmest room in the house so we need it.
    Good luck with getting that wall paper down.. Love the house.. it has great bones !

    Idea.. since you want the bear wood on the walls.. if you cannot do that.. can you hang bead board sideways? Just a thought.

  • You’ve probably already checked, but when we peeked under our “paid its dues” carpet when we purchased this house… we discovered the ORIGINAL (BEAUTIFUL) hard wood floors!!!!!!! That was a fun surprise. :)

    Thanks Amy! Unfortunately, we didn’t find hardwood under the carpet…but we plan to put hardwood in anyway — so much fun!
