Our First Project — The Garage Door Remotes

We’ve been in our home for 12 days now and I’m already itching to complete our first project! However, we decided not to start anything until the first of the year. After all, we wanted to get our stuff moved in, set up, organized, and live here for at least a few days before we started anything major!!

But, it’s officially January 1st…

…and I think it’s only right that we broke in the New Year by completing our very first house project {even if it was a small one!}

What was our first project?

The garage door remotes…or should I say “lack of” remotes.

Even though we have 3 different garage doors, we didn’t have remotes. So anytime we needed to open or close the garage doors, we had to get out of our vehicles and push the buttons inside the garage. I suppose this isn’t a huge deal, but it’s winter, it’s cool, and it’s snowy, so we figured it should be our first “project”.

Garage Door #1 and #2:

This garage is connected to our house via a breezeway so it’s the garage we use all the time.

We opted for these two-button remotes from Home Depot. They were one of the cheaper options AND they’re universal which means we didn’t have to worry about getting the wrong one and then wasting a bunch of time returning, exchanging, etc.

Even though they came with 2 full pages of instructions, Dave had everything set up within minutes…so it must not have been too difficult {or he’s just really quick!} And now, no more getting of our our vehicles to open the garage doors!

Garage Door #3:

This is the “extra garage” so we don’t use it as much, but we still wanted a way to easily open it from the outside.

So we installed this keyless entry pad {also from Home Deopt} outside the door.

Notice the tractor inside? Merry Christmas Dave!

It only took about 15 minutes to fully install and program the unit, and now we can quickly access our garage without keys!

Looks pretty good!

OK, so I know our first project wasn’t the most exciting project ever…but we had to start somewhere!

Next project…the master bedroom!!
